Mala
Suspended from the ceiling is a long strand of red cloth-covered balls, carefully wrapped by hand. Climbing across them are traditional Chinese pincushion figures, found in family sewing boxes.
The work brings together ideas of handwork, tradition, and repetition. Strung together, the forms resemble a mala or prayer beads, inviting thoughts of quiet ritual. As the tiny figures climb upward, the installation feels playful but also human. It reflects the way traditions travel through families, carried through small gestures.
Together, the suspended forms become a thread connecting past and present, movement and memory, showing how culture continues through the small acts we repeat with our hands.
