Embroidery
Embroidery is another language within my work, a way of translating and preserving histories through handwork. The skills of working with needle and thread were passed down through generations of my family, from my grandfather to my parents and then to me. Carrying these techniques forward becomes both a continuation of tradition and an act of remembrance.
I am interested in embroidery not only as a craft practice, but as a form of recording. Each stitch holds patience, labour, and care, allowing stories and personal histories to be held within cloth. Through this process, embroidery becomes a way to honour lives and experiences that might otherwise remain unseen or unspoken.
There is also a sense of discovery in the work, the thrill of clarifying and making visible another person’s life, almost like detective work. Fragments, conversations, photographs, objects, and memories are slowly pieced together through stitching. I am drawn to the process of uncovering small details that reveal something essential about a person, their experiences, and the traces they leave behind.
The repetitive rhythm of embroidery creates space for reflection and connection, linking past and present, family and community, memory and material. Through thread, I create intimate archives that preserve stories with care.
Emrboidery
My work is an act of preservation, ensuring that the essence of human experiences—stories—endures beyond the constraints of time. It safeguards memories that define us, celebrates lives that might otherwise fade into obscurity, and provides future generations with a tangible connection to the people that shaped their world. It provide a space for the audience to immerse themselves into the intimate yet timeless world of another.
In short, preservation is an act of care—both a celebration of what was and to what will be. It creates a continuity that helps us understand ourselves and our place in the world.
A unique visual language is created to reflect the essence of a life well lived using personal items, found objects and carefully chosen symbols to build a universe that reflects their personal story.
The cyclical nature of found objects, with their own histories and associations, are woven into these narratives, adding layers of depth and inviting unexpected connections. Through these relics, my compositions offer clues for viewers to piece together fragments of a life story.
