Lookout
Lookout is a six-metre-high outdoor sculpture positioned overlooking the harbour. Elevated above the ground, the work invites viewers to imagine inhabiting the small house-shaped structure at its summit — a place of observation, reflection, and searching.
The sculpture explores the idea of looking outwards in order to locate oneself within the world. From inside the elevated house form, the act of looking becomes both physical and emotional: searching for home, for orientation, for belonging. The harbour below suggests movement, distance, migration, and connection, while the house shape remains a familiar symbol of shelter and identity.
I am interested in how the idea of “home” exists not only as a fixed place, but also as something we continually seek and negotiate throughout our lives. Positioned between land, sea, and sky, Lookout reflects on the human desire for safety and connection while acknowledging the uncertainty and vastness of the world beyond us.
The work transforms a simple domestic form into a contemplative space, a lookout point from which to consider where we belong and how we situate ourselves within the larger landscape.
