Puss in Boots

This work brings together found objects to explore ideas of displacement, conflict and survival. At its centre is a bamboo birdcage purchased in Hong Kong (where the artist is born) an object traditionally associated with containment and domestic life. Within the cage, familiar childhood imagery collides with unease and tension.

Perched on a sharp mountain of skewers, a miniature Puss in Boots figurine from McDonald’s appears suspended in an endless act of battle or performance. Below, a rabbit holding a loop stands, creating a contrast between entrapment and threat. The skewers form a precarious landscape that feels both defensive and dangerous, transforming ordinary materials into something psychologically charged.

I am interested in how found objects carry cultural memory and personal association. Humour, nostalgia and violence exist side by side within the work, allowing the sculpture to move between playfulness and discomfort. The cage becomes a small world where relationships of power, protection and fear are held in tension.
